Matt is leading our Sunday School class through a study called Reimagining Evangelism. Yesterday we were challenged to not merely focus on our conversion story when we witness to others but to recall some of our transformation stories. These stories describe times when we encountered God and experienced a spiritual change in our lives. As we process these pivotal turning points in our walk with Christ, it reminds us of the journey that we are on as believers and also brings to the surface all of the mini-testimonies we can share with people we encounter. The workbook led our class through these series of questions to help us formulate some of our stories:
1) How would you describe your situation before encountering God and experiencing his transformation in some area of your life? What doubts, fears or struggles were you experiencing? What or who was playing too central a role in your life, making it hard for you to trust and keep God at the center?
2) How did God get your attention, and how did you experience God?
3) How did other people play a role?
4) What fears or anxieties did you have as you considered asking God to be at the center of your situation? What were the reasons for your fears or anxieties?
5) Why did you choose to let God be at the center of your life in this situation?
6) How did your life and your direction change through this experience?*
God desires that we use our life to bring glory to Him and draw others to a relationship with Him. Those of us who are following Christ are hopefully growing and becoming more like Him. As we face trials, deal with sin, and learn how to surrender more areas of our life to Him, we can use our stories to encourage and challenge others.
My mom sent this video to me yesterday and thought I'd post a link to it in case you haven't seen it. Maybe some of these testimonies will remind you of some of your own stories.
