Fall Reflections

Karen, Daniel, and I were able to take a long walk at the state park last week. I had been meaning to get out and take pictures for the past two weeks but simply didn't make the time while the fall colors were at their peak. However, we enjoyed the last leaves that were clinging on and rustled through the ones that had fallen. Fall is my favorite season. I savor every part of it...the low humidity, the colors, the "sweatshirt weather." But it also is a reminder that the bitter cold is ahead. After reflecting on our walk, a Robert Frost poem came to mind:

Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I enjoy the beauty that we experience living on this earth. I love to experience life by tasting, touching, hearing, smelling, and seeing. What a blessing that God gave us all of these senses to soak His creation up. There is so much pleasure here...and also pain.
Fall can be a way to metaphorically remind us that this life is fallen. It will not last; it is temporary. As a believer, I look forward to the time when there will be no more dying, sin, and disappointments. Beauty unfathomable awaits those of us who are following Christ. Let's not let our lives become consumed with the temporary, but rather let our eyes be fixed on what is eternal.

That was such a fun and beautiful day, and you got so many cute shots of Daniel! I don't know if I could pick a favorite! He looks like such a little man in these shots! What a cutie!
